Silver Medal Luncheon
honoring
Bruce Jensen
In a career spanning 35 years, Bruce Jensen has distinguished himself as a consummate communications professional and one who has definitely raised the bar in the Utah’s advertising industry. He has extensive experience in brand development and implementation, creativity, marketing and advertising strategy, media strategy, broadcast and print production, public relations, research, new business development, writing and management.
Bruce has won hundreds of international, national and regional awards for advertising creativity, including ADDYs, OBIEs and CLIOs. His work has been recognized in the leading journals of the advertising trade including Advertising Age, Communication Arts, Archive and ADWEEK. He has been interviewed for numerous television, radio, newspaper and magazine stories and features, as well as national and local advertising and communications publications. In 1990, he received the Quintus C. Wilson Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Utah.
In the 1970s, Bruce received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Utah. One of Bruce’s first jobs was a writer and photographer for Utah Holiday magazine. He then became the public relations director for the Mental Retardation Association of Utah. After a stint as a technical writer for Utah Power & Light, Bruce became the advertising director for the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Utah.
From 1980 to 2000, Bruce was the creative force behind one of the most successful advertising agencies in the western region (Fotheringham & Associates, which then became FJC&N, and now is known as Richter7). In 2000, Bruce joined with partners Bob Fotheringham and Hal Christensen in founding Brand Force, Inc., developing branding strategies for several noteworthy clients. Bruce also taught advertising, creativity, and branding classes at the University of Utah, where he still serves as an adjunct professor. He was the Parry D. Sorenson Distinguished Lecturer in 2000/2001.
In 2004, Bruce was hired as Vice President of Communications at Intermountain Healthcare. In that current capacity, he has developed and integrated an entire new brand strategy for the nationally recognized healthcare organization. His impact on the growth and strategic direction of Intermountain Healthcare has been monumental.
Bruce has also found the time to add to our community through his service to various organizations, including the Guadalupe Schools, Pioneer Memorial Theater, and as president of the Young Alumni Association of the University of Utah. He has been very generous with his time and a mentor and advocate for many people working in the ad industry in Utah. And, ironically, Bruce Jensen began his career in advertising, thanks to a UAF “Outstanding Advertising Student” scholarship back in 1973.
The Silver Medal is the highest honor the advertising profession can award to a member and it recognizes a lifetime of achievement in his or her field. The award is presented to men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in all areas of social concern. Recipients are outstanding members of their profession and their community.
Reservations are required. Deadline is noon on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. RSVP with your UAF call person, call the UAF office, 355-9001, or e-mail deeann@utahadfed.com.

Canne International Advertising Festival
Founded 54 years ago, the Cannes International Advertising Festival is the only annual gathering of the world’s advertising, creative, direct marketing, interactive, film, radio, media and marketing communities. Held every June, the Cannes Festival is considered the world’s most prestigious international advertising competition, and its trophies are the coveted Titanium, Grand Prix, Gold, Silver and Bronze Cannes Lions.
This year, more than 25,000 entries in nine categories were submitted by 2,000-plus U.S. and worldwide agencies.
More than 9,000 international delegates from 90 countries converge on Cannes in France for this week-long festival. Looking for new advertising and marketing ideas, they find examples in every category. In excess of 5,000 film entries are screened for viewing by delegates. The “short list” and winners of each category competition are displayed and more than 30 seminars are conducted by major agencies, brands, media and production companies to highlight and discuss current advertising trends and issues.
The Cannes Festival is still the most diverse, exciting showcase of ideas from around the world and a place for people to gather and discuss the future of the business.
Deadline for reservations is noon on Tuesday, May 27 2008. RSVP with your UAF call person, call the UAF office, 355-9001, or e-mail deeann@utahadfed.com.
